About Us

SHARE is proud of the fact that it works with all and for all, regardless of creed, class, colour or ethnic background. The five main areas that SHARE focuses on are social programmes, health programmes, assistance to those that need it, reconciliation projects, and also education programmes, hence the name of the charity. However, it is only with donations from organisations and members of the public that people who need help get it. Donations help to make a world of difference to the lives of many including pregnant and newly delivered mothers, young children, adolescents, and those with illnesses and disabilities.

Social programmes

SHARE attempts to erase all discrimination that exists in Romania so we have a project with downs syndrome youngsters and adults in an aim to integrate them with the remainder of society as previously they were kept out of public view, simply because of the condition they were born with that they had no choice over.

Health programmes

With the ante and post-natal programmes that Ascensium has set up in Romania with the backing of SHARE, pregnant women are now being treated brilliantly and are being supported both physically and emotionally. The women were so grateful for the support they received during a critical time in their lives to the extent that local hospitals have adapted some of our popular practices.

Not only did these programmes help stop women having miscarriages and stillbirths but they also reduced the number of abortions carried out by 2,500 annually in Sibiu alone. This could have been due to the fact that the women knew that they would receive support from Ascensium if they chose to keep the baby proving that money donated does go to a worthy cause.

Health advice is also provided for the poorest class of society in the most unfortunate Romanian villages. Without the basic health care that Ascensium provide in conjunction with SHARE, these people may have otherwise not received the healthcare they do. First aid courses are also present and they teach basic first aid skills to secondary school children in order to promote safety and health awareness amongst Romanian children. Ascemsium also provides information relevant to various health promotion issues like drug awareness and the deadly killers: AIDS/HIV, heart disease and breast cancer.

At secondary schools, sex education classes are held in an attempt to reduce the large number of teenage pregnancies that exists in Romania with advice on contraception and other related elements of sexual health. Without the work of Ascensium then many youngsters would not be fully informed on how to have a healthy sexual relationship resulting in unwanted pregnancies that lead the poor child born to be neglected or abused.

Assistance programmes

Counselling courses designed for young teenagers are held to help children overcome depression, anxiety, and fear. Ascensium particularly work with abused children or those who come from underprivileged backgrounds. Young children are commonly referred to from schools if they have behavioural problems so that they can speak to someone about their issues and why they are behaving in such a manner to help them overcome their problems.

Reconciliation programmes

Ascensium have a centre for prayer and reconciliation as part of a spiritual programme in order to help people in Romania develop themselves spiritually. Inter-faith work is also carried out with attempts to have peaceful dialogues and discussions between followers of the three major faiths Christianity, Islam and Judaism in Romania.

Education programmes

SHARE aim to educate all children and they provide funding for schools in order to teach children basic numeracy and literacy skills. The educational programme that is based on the national curriculum also caters for those with learning difficulties, or those very deprived children whose families did not send them to school because they considered it more important for the children to be working on the farms, harvesting the crops and milking the cows etc in order to keep food on the table and a roof over their head. Thus, all children are given some chance in choosing an academic route in further life so that they are not stuck in a dead-end job that leads them to be impoverished, and in turn leads their children to be stuck in a similar situation.

In the future SHARE also aim to develop the range of programmes we have to offer with targets to build a one-stop centre for advice, conferences, teaching, accommodation etc. SHARE believe that with extra funding the work that Ascensium carries out along with SHARE can be replicated in other parts of Eastern Europe in general.
